Romanian Institute for Recent History (IRIR) in cooperation with former members of the RFE Romanian Desk team initiated a campaign for establisment in Bucharest a Free Europe Center of Research and Documentation.

Campaign named "Free Europe - Here" [Europa Libera - Aici] started in December 2009. The purpose of an Free Europe Center of Research and Documentation is to acquire and house a complete copy of the Hoover archives, and to make it freely available to the public in Romania.

“The campaign’s main goal is to raise the funding needed for acquiring and processing (digitizing) an archive copy, and housing it at a dedicated center in Bucharest, permanently open for all those interested in studying these unique documents – students, scholars, journalists, historians, researchers and the man in the street. Within the future Center we also plan to initiate a radio school meant to carry on RFE’s professional standards and democratic tradition”, says the IRIR statement. link to IRIR

Among supporters of the campaign are Romanian political and cultural personalities, former Presidents Emil Constantinescu and Ion Iliescu and King Michael.
